Today was our last day in New Zealand. It has been such an amazing and beautiful country to visit. I know that we will be back one day, eventually…….
Today, we wanted to take it easy! In the afternoon, we visited the Kiwi Birdlife Park.
I’m not sure if I mentioned this, but New Zealanders refer to themselves as “kiwis.” This term refers to the rare kiwi bird. It is a flightless bird, which had no natural predators until settlers brought over cats, opossum, and other mammals that killed the baby kiwis. Now, it is extremely rare to see them in the wild.
Unfortunately, we weren’t ablt to take any pictures of them. They are nocturnal and the exhibit was very dark except for some red lights. The flash of a camera frightens them. They were really funny to watch. They are basically fat little birds that have long beaks and hop around looking for worms and bugs.
After that we spent some time walking around the town center looking in some shops.
For dinner, we just got some “takeaway” food. I got some mussels, and Justin got a burger and fries from Fergburger. Fergburger is a pretty popular burger place in Queenstown.
When we were picking up my food, I saw something extremely interesting in the bathroom. There was a hair straightener that you could use if you inserted 2$. It was so cool! Plus, it’s the exact same brand straightener that I have (ghd).
When we got back to the hotel, we opened a bottle of wine, put on an episode of The Sopranos, and ate dinner. Perfect last night in Queenstown!
Our flight leaves around 4pm tomorrow for Melbourne. It’s going to be strange to get on a plane again! We are NOT looking forward to packing for a flight. It’s much easier to throw everything in the trunk of the car!
See you in Australia!
