Yep, today is my birthday. I’m 32. I’m not much of a birthday person. I don’t really like all the attention. Actually, yesterday, Sam asked me, “are you excited about tomorrow” and I said “what’s tomorrow?” It’s easy to lose track of time while on vacation.
We got up this morning and went to the big market in Sarlat. It was way bigger than the one that we went to yesterday. There were tons of vendors with so many different yummy things for sale….meats, cheese, fruits, vegetables, cakes, tarts etc. It was a little crowded and touristy once it got later in the morning, but we were able to navigate through the crowds pretty easily. James was in the stroller, which makes it a little more tricky but we did ok. We split a pecan caramel tart for breakfast (yum) and bought a few treats to pick on.
After the market we went to a foie Gras farm. I somewhat had mixed feeling about going there. Sometimes less information is better. We didn’t do a tour, but we got to see some of the geese, and James liked that.
We went back to the farmhouse and hung out for a little bit. Sam offered to watch James while we went on the boat ride down the Dordogne River. The boat ride was nice, but I think it was mainly for “older”people. Either way, it was nice to have a little quiet time.
We had dinner reservations for just the two of us. James didn’t take a nap today, and I could sense that his mood could potentially cause a problem for Sam. I decided to go anyway, and we had a very nice meal at La Petit Paris in Daglan. I had a delicious sweetbreads dish and an amazing orange Grand Marnier soufflé. Sooooo, stretch pants may be in my future for tomorrow!
Unfortunately, when we got home, Sam told us that James really gave her a hard time. He was looking for me and crying the whole time we were gone 🙁
I’m totally confident that Sam can handle it, but I hate to put anyone in that situation.
Call it a mother’s intuition, but I just had an uneasy feeling about going to dinner tonight.
Aside from that, I had a very good birthday!
Tomorrow, we leave for a city on the Mediterranian Coast called Collioure. We have a somewhat long drive, so hopefully it will all go smoothly!
