Today was the longest day that Justin and I will leave James for the whole trip. He spent the day with “Sema” while Justin and I drove to Pauillac in Medoc (on the left bank of Bordeaux). It took about an hour and a half to get there and it was just going to be too long of a day for James.
Our first stop was at Chateau Pontet-Canet. It is a “biodynamic” winery, which means they are use very natural means to harvest the grapes and make the wine (including using horses). It is a beautiful property and a family still lives on the estate. We both really enjoyed this visit. We both tend to favor “old world” styles of wine.
We ate lunch at Chateau Cordeillan-Bages. It was delicious and a great value for the quality of food. They also had a butter cart with different types of butter. So, I’ve pretty much gained 10 lbs in the last week! Oh well!
Our next stop was at Chateau Pichon Longueville Baron. It was another beautiful Chateau on a gorgeous property.
After that, we headed home to see how James and Sam made out. It seems like they had a really good day! Sam is awesome with him, as I knew that she would be. They went out into the city and walked around, bought some sweets, and made pizza.
The rest of the day, we walked around the town. There is an art market going on and there some really beautiful crafts and jewelry. We found a play set and let James run around like a crazy person. James also got a souvenir. It is a wooden sword with the St. Emilion shield on it. James is really into swords right now so he is loving it!
Tomorrow we leave early to head to the Dordogne area. We are stopping at a couple of Sauternes places to try some sweet wines. I’ll let you know how the drive goes. Fingers crossed!
See ya St. Emilion! I week down already!
