We had an amazing first day in Queenstown!  We took a helicopter to Milford Sound and landed on a glacier!

I suppose that I didn’t pay much attention to Justin when he was planning this trip, because I didn’t know that we were going to be doing all these incredible things!

We got picked up from the hotel around 9:30, and they brought us to the helicopter launch site.  We used the Glacier Southern Helicopter Company, and we were in a group of 6.  Luckily, we got to sit in the front on the way there (2 people sat in the front and 4 in the back).  We were able to get some great pictures!

Milford Sound is part of the New Zealand Fiordland National Park. It is located Southwest of NZ’s south island.  It has incredible scenery, waterfalls, and wildlife.  It is a 5 hour bus ride from Queenstown to Milford Sound.  I’m glad we took a helicopter!!!  It’s about a 30 minute ride via helicopter.

This helicopter ride was unbelievable.  We saw snow-capped mountains, gorgeous lakes, and amazing glaciers.  The glaciers were a bluish color.

Then, we landed on a glacier.  Yes, WE LANDED ON A GLACIER!!!!  I don’t really know how to put it into words……by far one of the coolest things we’ve ever done.

After that, the pilot took us to the Milford Sound boat.  We cruised through Milford Sound until we reached the Tasman Sea, which is the body of water that separates Australia and New Zealand.  It was really beautiful and really windy!!  We saw seals, a dolphin, and a few penguins.

We took the helicopter back to Queenstown and enjoyed another incredible ride.

Tomorrow, we may be doing something very scary.  I’m not going to say what it is, because I’m not sure that I can actually go through with it.  I’ll let you know tomorrow!
